BIG Changes – Misty

Sunflower

Oh man. DT folks, let me tell you – we’ve had some big changes since going in and coming out of winter hibernation.  I’ll make this a quick and to-the-point blog post for those who are interested enough to wonder what we’ve been up to.  We’re happy to be back online and can’t wait to share our world of Dirt Therapy with you!

Back in October, I went on medical leave in order to focus on my therapies.  Between the full time managerial gig, physical therapy, osteopathic manipulation therapy, Dr. visits, medication changes, and the 2 hour commute to and from work – I just couldn’t keep up anymore. I was missing more days than I was actually present.

My thoughts were that I would take this leave, be back right after the first of the new year, with pep in my step, and ready take on my job again.  My bodies response to that was “not a chance”.

I went back out on leave again after working only a couple of days and spending the remainder of the week battling a flare up.  Grrr.  Fast forward to March, I gave up the battle and turned in my resignation after a “come to Jesus meeting” with my Dr. about quality of life and limitations. I can’t even tell you how hard it was to give up my job.  I loved my team.  I loved the work. I loved the salary.  It’s been quite an adjustment for me and I still grieve for the fact that it took me 20 years of working in the medical industry to earn this senior managerial position with the State of Oregon only to have to give it up for a condition I just cannot seem to control.  On the other hand, it sure is nice not to have to white knuckle my days because of my condition.  Naps are real in my word now.

Another big change is our living arrangements.  We moved into a farm house outside of town with 5 acres, an orchard, and a huge garden.  I think you know where this is going. Dirt Therapy Heaven!  It’s been good for all of us and we love it here.  I’ll be posting progress on our garden very soon but I wanted to bring everyone up-to-date on where we are.

The last major change is that we will be having a plus one in the household come this summer.  My mother-in-law (whom I adore) will be moving in with us (or rather the mother-in-law suite) in June. Her mother passed recently and she had always said that she would be moving up once she was done taking care of her mama and God had called her home. She is eligible for retirement on June 7th and she will become a full-fledged Tex-a-Gonian at the end of June.  She can’t wait to join the Dirt Therapy Crew and we are excited to have her!  Family is pretty stinkin’ important to us, if you haven’t already noticed!

More to come DT Crew!  Happy Spring!

Peace, Love & Dirt Therapy!

~Misty
